Arch 468: Inspire

Making theatre without a safety net

Arch 468 Inspire is a series of five one-day workshops to experiment with making theatre using politics, disability or design  as starting points.

What happens if we draw our story from working with the material given to us by a designer or brought in by the ensemble (instead of beginning with a specific theme/subject or script)? So that the creative spark will be initiated by artists from theatre disciplines other than writing and directing.

For each workshop we’ll gather a group of collaborative theatre artists and the work will grow according to who is in the room. Each day will be jointly led by a director, Julie Osman, and a designer or performer.

Instead of a script we will have:

•an ensemble of creative theatre artists

•willingness to play and experiment

•images & objects

•sounds

•light & dark

•fragments of text

•and a framework to structure the day

The day’s work will be built up in layers: for example, the designer brings in their material and we respond; we select and try a different experiment; a story begins to emerge, the designer makes some new material in response...

As a participant, you will get to:

•experience a way of working where your responses generate the story

•be part of a creative ensemble

•free up and lose some of the limitations which may be inhibiting your responses

•discover sensory and imaginitive ways into the creative process, which you can take into your own practice

•work in new, possibly challenging, territory for you as an artist, in a supportive company
