Origins is a new series of workshops for performers curated by The Lab Theatre Collective. Bringing your questions on devising to the table, we will work collaboratively using improvisation, object and existing text to inspire and identify methods which give devised performance depth and fluidity. This project is intended to help performers to hone and develop devising skills, which are often overlooked and underestimated.
This project will run for four sessions over two weeks. Participants will need to be available for all 4 sessions.
Back to Basics
Participants get to:
•Brush up on acting skills in preparation for three sessions working on devising.
•Explore how these skills can contribute to the devising process.
•Revisit skills which provide an inroad into generating ideas.
Improvisation
Participants get to:
•Work with top improvisation performer and facilitator Tai Lawrence (founder of the impresarios - TBC).
•Learn key improvising techniques.
•Develop an understanding of long form improvisation as a means of accessing ideas and generating stimulus.
Objects
Participants get to:
•Explore story through object as a starting point of the devising process.
•Use our personal and practical relationship with objects to create ideas.
•Work with notions of object and play to open pathways into performance.
Adaptation
Participants get to:
•Use existing text to inspire questions, images and performance.
•Develop techniques in translating non play based text into a theatrical form.
•Create original performance material.
